Real Madrid have reportedly agreed a verbal deal to sign Chelsea left-back Marc Cucurella, with the move expected to be completed after Spain’s World Cup campaign. Multiple reports say Real’s newly appointed Jose Mourinho is backing the transfer, and that Cucurella’s representatives and the player are involved in the agreement. The transfer fee is reported in the range of about €55 million (£47.5m) plus performance-related add-ons, while other figures cited include “more than €50m” and earlier reports of Chelsea demanding around €70m.

Cucurella, 27, is currently with Spain at the World Cup and is expected to feature in the opening Group H match against Cape Verde. Spain coach Luis de la Fuente says he is “happy” for Cucurella and does not expect the rumours to affect his commitment to the tournament. Separately, former Chelsea defender Ashley Cole urges incoming manager Xabi Alonso to block Cucurella’s departure and argues Chelsea should retain key players.

Reports also indicate Real made contact with Riccardo Calafiori’s representatives but did not make an offer, focusing instead on Cucurella as a left-back target.
