Oshiomhole says Edo was safer than Anambra under Peter Obi

Former Edo State Governor and Senator representing Edo North, Adams Oshiomhole, has asserted that Edo State enjoyed better security during his administration than Anambra State did under former Governor Peter Obi.    Oshiomhole made the remarks while speaking on the Mic On Podcast hosted by Seun Okinbaloye. He criticised opposition figures, including Obi and former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, for criticising President Bola Tinubu’s handling of national insecurity without offering concrete solutions.    The All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain specifically challenged Obi’s security record, pointing to the activities of the Bakassi Boys vigilante group, which he said escalated into widespread kidnapping and lawlessness in Anambra during Obi’s tenure (2006–2014).    “Do the research. What were the first major decisions that Governor [Willie] Obiano took when he succeeded Peter Obi as governor?” Oshiomhole asked. He recalled images of Obiano using bulldozers to demolish properties allegedly linked to kidnappers and the Bakassi Boys, whom he claimed had “gotten out of control.”    “Peter Obi could not fix security in Anambra State. It took the intervention of Governor Obiano… where wife kidnapped husband, husband kidnapped wife. It got to that level,” he added.    Oshiomhole, who governed Edo State from 2008 to 2016, declared: “I was a governor then; my state was safer than Anambra.”    He further questioned Obi’s leadership style, dismissing phrases like “do the right thing” as vague and lacking practical answers. Oshiomhole expressed confidence that President Tinubu would win the 2027 presidential election convincingly.     The comments have reignited political debate ahead of future elections, with contrasting historical claims about security performance in both states during the respective administrations.
