He later added in a post on X that a UK-France mission to aid the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz had its assets in place and was "ready to be deployed". European leaders are impatient to see the Strait reopened after the limiting of shipping traffic during the war caused a spike in global energy prices. Adding to the uncertainty, Iran's Fars news agency said Tehran had added a clause to the framework deal on imposing maritime service fees for transiting Hormuz.

Macron said the talks would cover support for Lebanon, the long-term reopening of the Strait of Hormuz and efforts to reach a wider agreement on Iran’s nuclear and ballistic missile programmes. "The objective will be to see the consequences of this agreement, the support for Lebanon, the reopening of Hormuz in the long term, and obviously the conclusion of an agreement on nuclear and ballistic missiles in Iran," Macron said in a video posted on Instagram after arriving in the city on the shores of Lake Geneva. Macron is hosting Trump and the leaders of Germany, Canada, Italy, Japan and the United Kingdom for three days of talks starting Monday.
