A delegation from Nigeria’s Defence Headquarters (DHQ) visited the family of late retired Major General Rabe Abubakar and the Katsina State Government to offer condolences following his death. The visits took place on Sunday, with reports saying the delegation was led by Major General I.M. Abdullahi, the DHQ Chief of Administration (Army). Statements from military spokespersons on subsequent days say the delegation conveyed condolences on behalf of the Chief of Defence Staff and the Armed Forces of Nigeria.
The sources describe Abubakar as a senior, former Director of Defence Information and present his death as connected to his abduction in Katsina, while travelling along the Katsina–Matazu road. Reports further state that Abubakar died in captivity on June 13, 2026, his remains were released and buried in Katsina on June 14, 2026, and that his wife remains in captivity. During the visits, officials said the military is committed to pursuing those responsible and ensuring that justice is served. One account adds that the delegation presented a national flag to the family in honour of the retired general’s service.
