The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) asks Davao City Mayor Sebastian “Baste” Duterte to provide an explanation regarding alleged illegal waste dumping outside the DENR Region XI office in Lanang, Davao City. DENR Region XI Regional Executive Director Mercedes Dumagan issues a letter dated June 15 requesting the mayor’s response after DENR personnel catch individuals dumping mixed waste at the site in front of the agency’s office.
DENR also files a complaint involving the vehicle owner after CCTV footage shows a vehicle unloading mixed waste at the location. According to the reports, some of the people apprehended reference Duterte’s Facebook post from June 4, which reportedly described the area as a temporary waste location. The outlets report that DENR’s request centers on clarifying responsibility and compliance with waste-handling rules linked to the alleged dumping incident.
The reports do not specify the outcome of the DENR request or the mayor’s planned response, but they confirm that DENR is pursuing an explanation and administrative action based on the incident and the CCTV-recorded activity.
