Telangana reopens government schools for the 2026–27 academic year and, alongside the reopening, the state government launches a statewide Breakfast and Milk Scheme for students in government educational institutions. The programme is rolled out from June 15, when schools resume, and is expected to benefit nearly 29 lakh students. It covers students from pre-primary up to Class 12, including students in junior colleges and various categories of government and residential schools.

The scheme is inaugurated by Transport and BC Welfare Minister Ponnam Prabhakar at a government high school near Raj Bhavan in Hyderabad. Officials also distribute textbooks and notebooks at the event. The government links the initiative with its “Badi Bata” enrolment drive to increase admissions to government schools and bring back dropouts. Separate arrangements include distribution of uniforms and other basic items to eligible students, with Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy directing officials to ensure uniform fabric quality.

Under the breakfast component, meals are provided six days a week, with milk or ragi malt on designated days. Reported weekly options include items such as dosa with chutney or chapati with curry, millet idlis with sambar, puri with aloo kurma, millet upma or pongal, and bondas, paired with milk or ragi jawa depending on the day.
