Robbie Lammas, a councillor in Medway, Kent, leaves Reform UK after describing his earlier defection from the Conservative Party as “the biggest mistake of my life.” Lammas, who was elected as a councillor in 2021, joined Reform in October 2025. Speaking to the BBC, he says he is “embarrassed” and feels he was “misled,” adding that he has “had enough” of the party and is leaving it. He says his switch was presented to him as something that would lead to broader gains, rather than being used mainly for publicity, and he describes Reform as using “spin” while lacking strong governance.
At the time of joining Reform, Lammas said his “trust in the Conservative Party has gone” and that the Conservatives were “over,” citing concerns including a lack of announced policy. He later says he expects the Conservatives may have changed under Kemi Badenoch and that he is now sitting as an independent, with hopes of returning to the Conservative benches.
