Heatherwick Studio and SPPARC unveil the first phase of the transformation of London’s Olympia, a historic exhibition complex in West London. Opened in 1886, Olympia is being redeveloped into a mixed-use cultural destination with the redevelopment described as reconnecting the 14-acre site to surrounding neighbourhoods through new public spaces, cultural venues, hospitality and commercial facilities.
The first phase focuses on new outdoor areas and an elevated pedestrian route supported by a public canopy. The canopy, described across coverage as a faceted and pleated glass structure, shelters new terrace spaces and contributes to a gateway into the wider master plan. It also frames views across Olympia’s historic roofscape.
Multiple outlets state the project opens to the public as part of this initial stage, which marks completion of the canopy and associated rooftop bars, restaurants, and landscaped terraces. The broader redevelopment is set to continue through later phases, with implementation planned through 2026 and 2027, according to reporting on the overall master plan timeline.
