A Hong Kong court awards HK$6.29 million in compensation to a dancer who suffered severe and permanent injuries after a stage accident during a concert by the Cantopop boy band Mirror. The District Court rules in a written judgment issued on Monday that the dancer, identified in reports as Mo Li Kai-yin, is entitled to substantial damages from his employer, Studiodanz, under Hong Kong’s Employees’ Compensation Ordinance.
Both outlets describe the incident as occurring at the Hong Kong Coliseum on 28 July 2022, nearly four years before the ruling. The dancer is struck by a giant screen that falls during the performance. The court finds the injuries amount to “catastrophic” disabilities, resulting in permanent total incapacity, and orders compensation accordingly.
The decision is delivered by District Judge Phillis Loh, who sets the compensation amount at HK$6.29 million, covering the consequences of the accident as assessed under the relevant statutory framework.
