Iran’s foreign ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei says Lebanon is an integral part of a draft agreement intended to end the war between Iran and the United States. Baghaei tells reporters that the memorandum mentions Lebanon three times and includes commitments calling for an end to fighting on all fronts, along with respect for Lebanon’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. He links the inclusion of Lebanon to broader terms in the interim arrangement, stating that respect for Lebanon’s sovereignty and territorial integrity is part of what Iran describes as the interim agreement with the US.
Baghaei also says Tehran plans diplomatic visits to regional countries ahead of the expected signing of the memorandum of understanding in Geneva on Friday. He adds that Iran is working through the “manner and mechanism” for signing the document, with a final decision to be made and results to be officially announced over the next two days.
Separately, he states that Iran will take measures to help ensure safe passage in the Strait of Hormuz in coordination with Oman and other countries, for a specific period tied to US commitments. He says the US is obliged to meet its commitments and that any failure would prompt reciprocal measures from Tehran.
