Iran says Lebanon is an integral part of its prospective US-Iran agreement and that any durable arrangement to end hostilities must include an end to the war in Lebanon. Iran’s foreign ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baqaei says the draft memorandum calls for ending fighting “on all fronts” and mentions Lebanon multiple times, linking Lebanon’s sovereignty and territorial integrity to the interim commitments. Iran also says the war’s end in Lebanon is inseparable from the broader US-Iran understanding, and that Tehran will not accept further Israeli attacks that undermine Lebanese security.

On the diplomatic track, Iran states that discussions with regional countries are planned for Tehran before the memorandum is signed, described by multiple outlets as due in Geneva. Iran’s officials also indicate that the US must deliver its commitments under the agreement, otherwise Tehran will take reciprocal measures. Regarding the Lebanon component, Iran urges the US to press for an unconditional Israeli withdrawal from Lebanon and, in some reporting, calls for a permanent Lebanon ceasefire and warns that peace talks should not proceed unless the Lebanon war stops.

Some reporting notes that fighting in Lebanon has reportedly decreased since the deal was announced, while Israeli strikes continue to be reported by Lebanese media.
