Television actress Sanchita Ugale, 30, is reported to have died by suicide at her residence in Nalasopara East, Mumbai, on June 14. Her co-star Sorab Bedi said he was in touch with her shortly before her death, adding that he spoke to her about two days earlier and learned of her passing on the morning of June 15. Bedi described her as stressed in her final days, stating he found the news “shocking” and that she had been “pareshan” (troubled) before she died.
Following the death, the All Indian Cine Workers Association (AICWA) urged Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis to order a thorough, high-level investigation. AICWA president Suresh Shyamlal Gupta said the authorities should examine all possible angles rather than treating the case solely as suicide, and called for transparency and a probe that addresses questions raised by the circumstances of the death. Police investigation is ongoing, with preliminary reports indicating suicide.
