A Federal High Court sitting in Kaduna adjourns the trial of former Kaduna State Governor Nasir Ahmad El-Rufai to June 24, 2026 after two co-defendants fail to appear in court. The postponement follows submissions by the parties’ counsels, and the judge orders the matter be continued on the new date. El-Rufai is present when the case is called. He is facing prosecution by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) on allegations that relate to abuse of office, financial impropriety and fraud during his tenure as governor. The ICPC alleges that public funds were released for projects that were not executed or were improperly handled, and the agency says its charges are supported by evidence gathered during investigations. The defence, according to reports, continues to deny the allegations and maintains that El-Rufai’s actions were carried out in line with the law and established procedures. The earlier court sittings included arguments on bail conditions and preliminary applications. With the adjournment, both prosecution and defence teams are expected to return for continuation of hearings on June 24.
