Senator Iyabo Obasanjo, daughter of former President Olusegun Obasanjo, rejoins the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ogun State shortly after resigning from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). Multiple outlets report that she left the PDP for the APC in January 2026, citing grievances against PDP leadership and stating that she intended to contest the Ogun State governorship election on the APC platform. That bid did not materialize after the APC governorship ticket went to another candidate, and she resigned from the APC on June 8. She attributes her exit to alleged disrespect, betrayal, and unfair treatment by APC leadership in Ogun State.

Her return to PDP is reported as happening in quick succession, with her appearing at PDP activities in Abeokuta and being formally received by the party in Ogun State. Outlets also agree that the PDP names her as its candidate for the Ogun Central senatorial district ahead of the next election. In doing so, she says she pledges to abide by the PDP’s constitution, manifesto, and code of conduct, and she frames her return as a renewed political effort in Ogun State.
