The Pentagon’s generative AI platform, GenAI.mil, is seeing rapid adoption across the Department of Defense. A Pentagon official says about 1.5 million DoD employees are now using the platform every day. The latest figure indicates the platform is used by a large share of the department’s workforce, which is estimated at about 3.5 million people, according to the reporting.
When GenAI.mil launched in December, the number of daily users was far lower, at roughly 80,000 employees. Over the following months, that usage increases sharply, reaching nearly 1.5 million daily users within about six months.
The reports describe GenAI.mil as a platform dedicated to deploying generative AI capabilities for defense-related work. Both outlets attribute the updated adoption numbers to senior Pentagon leadership and present the growth as evidence of fast scaling since the initial rollout. The accounts do not specify which specific tasks users perform through the platform.
