Disney+ greenlights “Journey,” an original animated fantasy series produced by Higher Ground in partnership with Disney Kids & Family. The project is music-driven, with Disney and Higher Ground announced as collaborating on the series’ development for Disney+. The deal is described as Higher Ground’s first major production partnership announcement since President Barack Obama and Michelle Obama’s company began winding down an eight-year first-look arrangement with Netflix, which was announced earlier in the year.
The series is currently in production under a working title of “Journey.” Its logline centers on a protagonist named Journey, whose city is protected by an energy shield that starts to fail. As the shield weakens, Journey responds to a mysterious call that draws her beyond the walls of her city, starting a broader journey tied to the show’s fantasy setting. Disney+ is the platform for the series, and the partnership brings Higher Ground’s creative development to an additional distribution relationship following its Netflix transition.
