The Government Service Insurance System (GSIS) announces it will launch a subsidy program for children of GSIS members who enroll in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) degree programs. Under the plan, incoming first-time college freshmen will receive ₱15,000 annually if they meet eligibility requirements set by GSIS. The program targets students who obtained at least a 90-percent general weighted average in senior high school and are enrolled in identified STEM courses. GSIS also limits access to the children of active GSIS members with permanent employment status, with a salary grade not exceeding 15, and who are up to date on premium payments. Multiple outlets report that GSIS will roll out the subsidy program this month, following a statement issued on Tuesday. The subsidy is intended to support qualified students pursuing STEM studies as they begin college.
