Vaibhav Sooryavanshi is drawing disciplinary scrutiny after an on-field altercation involving Sri Lanka A players during India A’s match in Dambulla. Reports describe a heated exchange after the end of play, including footage suggesting brief physical contact before teammates and officials intervened to calm the situation. Multiple outlets link the incident to potential review under the ICC Code of Conduct, citing Article 2.12, which covers inappropriate physical contact between players. Under the code, offences are generally assessed by the match referee and can result in reprimands, fines, and/or demerit points, with further consequences possible if demerit points accumulate.

Commentators have also weighed in publicly. Former India cricketer Sanjay Manjrekar said that if he were India A’s coach or manager, he would have left Sooryavanshi out to send a message that getting physical on the field is not acceptable, regardless of provocation.

The BCCI has not confirmed any action, with a senior board official indicating it is not for the board to decide without the proper authority and process. After the incident, Sooryavanshi returned to play against Afghanistan A but had a limited outing.
