The remains of Ateneo de Manila University rookie basketball player Rene Clert “Bobet” Baterbonia are brought to his hometown of Talacogon, Agusan del Sur, where his family and community prepare for his final rites. Reports say the cortege arrives in Talacogon in the early hours of Tuesday after departing Davao City, taking considerably longer than the usual Davao City–Talacogon travel time due to stops or slowdowns in towns along the route. The Ateneo de Manila University also states that Baterbonia’s remains are brought home and lie in state with his family and community until his burial on June 24.
On June 24, burial rites begin with a funeral Mass at the Talacogon Municipal Gymnasium, attended by family members, friends, and supporters who pay their final respects. Among those who attend are Senator Robin Padilla and his sibling, BB Gandanghari, who extend condolences to the bereaved family. Additional coverage describes emotional scenes during the service, including remarks by Baterbonia’s mother, Rovelyn Baterbonia, before the interment at Talacogon Memorial Park.
