Fox Corporation CEO Lachlan Murdoch is pursuing an acquisition of Roku, according to reporting from The Verge and NDTV. The proposed deal would add Roku’s existing slate of original programming to Fox’s media assets. If the acquisition is completed, the combined company would control additional streaming offerings, including Roku’s channel presence and Roku-associated assets such as the Roku Channel and the previously Fox-linked streaming service Tubi.
Both outlets cite a company statement indicating that the merger would position the combined businesses as the third-largest player in U.S. television based on viewing share. That viewing-share calculation is described as incorporating Fox’s broader platform of sports, news, and entertainment channels alongside the consolidation of Tubi and Roku-related streaming properties.
While the reports focus on strategic rationale and expected viewing-share impact, they both frame the outcome as contingent on the deal going through, with the timeline described as extending to “by this time next year.”
