Italian actress and director Asia Argento is set to receive the Locarno Film Festival’s lifetime achievement award, the festival announced across multiple outlets. The honor is described as recognizing creative pioneers and is part of the festival’s broader celebration of film artists who take risks and continually reinvent their work. Locarno’s artistic director, Giona A. Nazzaro, is quoted praising Argento as an artist who reimagines what it means to make films and who persistently challenges herself.
The award will be presented on August 13 in Locarno, Switzerland, at the festival’s open-air Piazza Grande venue, which seats around 8,000 people. Reporting also says Argento will appear on the same Piazza Grande stage to present her most recent film. The film is identified as “Death Has No Master” (Italian: “La Muerte No Tiene Dueño”), directed by Jorge Thielen Armand, and the reports indicate it debuted at a prior event before being screened at Locarno.
The Locarno Film Festival runs from August 5 to August 15 this year.
