The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) says all passengers injured in the 8 June Warri–Itakpe train accident have been treated and discharged, and that equipment involved in the incident has been recovered. NRC’s updates, reported by multiple outlets, state that the derailment occurred at about 4:17 p.m. near the Goodluck Jonathan Railway Station in Agbor, Delta State, involving four coaches. The train had departed Itakpe earlier the day and was en route to Ujevwu, Warri, carrying 442 passengers and 40 crew members.
One source adds that NRC confirms one staff member still remains under specialist care due to serious injuries, while reporting that passengers and personnel are accounted for. The outlets also state that five people died as a result of the accident. NRC highlights hospital responses in Agbor and surrounding areas, and says it has established a medical and victim support committee to engage survivors and bereaved families across affected locations, including Agbor, Asaba and Ugbolu, with further outreach planned. NRC also says engineers have started rail track restoration and that it will cooperate with authorities on safety recommendations.
