Katsina State Governor Dikko Radda issues an Executive Order aimed at disrupting criminal networks linked to banditry and kidnapping. After an emergency security meeting with security agencies, traditional rulers and other stakeholders, the government announces restrictions including a ban on the sale, purchase, transportation and storage of petroleum products in jerrycans across the state. The order also directs the immediate closure of Point of Sale (POS) businesses, as well as commercial phone charging centres, in Matazu and Musawa Local Government Areas. Reporting from multiple outlets says the measures target alleged supply and coordination channels used by armed groups operating from forests and remote locations, particularly fuel supplies in hideouts.
In addition to the jerrycan and POS restrictions, the government orders a total ban on motorcycle use in Matazu and Musawa, citing intelligence that bandits rely on motorcycles for attacks and rapid escapes. Officials state the directives are intended to improve security and protect residents, and they call on citizens to comply and provide intelligence to security operatives. The governor warns that violators will face strict sanctions.
