Former Buhari media aide Bashir Ahmad criticises the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) decision to select Mustapha Kwankwaso, son of Rabiu Kwankwaso, as Kano State governorship running mate. Ahmad says the choice is “politically unwise,” arguing that it is strategically miscalculated for the party to field Kwankwaso as a father in one role while simultaneously selecting his son in the same election cycle. According to the reports, Mustapha is the son of Rabiu Kwankwaso, who is described as the NDC’s presidential running mate ahead of the 2027 election. The NDC governorship candidate in Kano is Aminu Gwarzo, a former deputy governor. The sources also say Gwarzo emerged as the consensus candidate in May after stakeholders meetings led by Rabiu Kwankwaso. They further report that Gwarzo resigned from Governor Abba Yusuf’s administration after disagreements, which contributed to his defection from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to the NDC.
