APC member Joe Igbokwe says Ndigbo should shift away from calls for a sovereign Biafra and instead focus on building connections across Nigeria. According to reports from Daily Post Nigeria and Nigerian Eye, Igbokwe frames the message as advice on leadership and coexistence in the country. He calls on South-East indigenes to drop what he describes as “senseless” or “useless” agitation for Biafra, and he urges Igbo people to “build bridges” of friendship, trust and cooperation with communities in other parts of Nigeria. In the accounts, Igbokwe also argues for rejecting attitudes he describes as superiority or ethnic preoccupation, and he encourages what he terms cultural competence and emotional intelligence. Both sources report that he adds a call for people to stop violence attributed to the Biafra movement, including killing of Igbo people and burning homes. The reports cite that he posts these views on his official Facebook page, presenting them as part of “11 things” he believes Igbo people should know about leadership.
