Mumbai’s civic body, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), tightens water restrictions as reservoir levels fall to critically low levels. The BMC cites lake and reservoir stocks supplying the city at roughly 10.35% as of June 16, according to a circular referenced in reports. Multiple outlets say the BMC already has a citywide 10% cut in place and is adding further limits as the monsoon is delayed.

From June 17 (and, in some reporting, effective Wednesday), the BMC halts or suspends water supply to new construction sites and swimming pools. Reports also state the BMC imposes additional reductions for industrial and commercial users, including a 20% cut on such establishments, building on the existing citywide restriction. Further measures mentioned include limiting water supply to bottling plants. The BMC’s actions are framed as emergency steps to manage dwindling supplies.

At least one report notes a review scheduled for June 30, when the BMC is expected to reassess the restrictions based on reservoir levels and changing conditions.
