Binance says it believes its European Union Markets in Crypto Assets (MiCA) licence application is compliant, after reports indicated regulators may reject the bid and affect its ability to serve EU customers. The exchange says Greece’s Hellenic Capital Market Commission (HCMC) has completed its review and “considered it compliant” with MiCA requirements, while noting the assessment is still subject to further review and authorisation steps involving the EU’s securities regulator, ESMA. The company’s comments come shortly after Reuters reported that EU regulators were preparing to reject Binance’s licensing application, which could limit the exchange’s legal operation for EU residents from July 1.

Under MiCA rules, crypto firms generally have until the end of June to obtain authorisation to continue offering services across the EU. Binance says it expects ESMA to progress the licence and authorise it at an upcoming board meeting, and it says it will update users by June 30, aligning with the MiCA application deadline. Binance has also said it is pursuing an EU route through its Greek application submitted in January and that it has been engaging with regulators for an extended period.
