Google starts rolling out Android 17 through its June Pixel Feature Drop across supported Pixel phones and Wear OS 7 devices. Multiple outlets report the update is initially available for eligible Pixel models including Pixel 6 and newer phones, as well as Pixel Fold and Pixel Tablet. The update introduces Bubbles, which lets users run apps in floating windows for easier multitasking and switching. For foldable devices, Android 17 adds improved foldable multitasking and a dedicated gaming mode. Another highlighted feature is Screen Reactions, which supports interactive/selfie-camera reactions tied to video creation workflows.
Several sources also emphasize new privacy and security measures. These include tighter controls around location and contact permissions, stronger protections for lost or stolen devices, and additional safeguards related to PIN/attack attempts and threat detection. Other reported additions include expanded parental controls and customization options for assistant and app settings, such as separate assistant volume and app memory controls. Google also includes multiple AI features for Pixel users, including tools for generating music from prompts or images and creating or editing media. Battery improvements for Pixel Watch are also mentioned, with reports of up to about 10% better battery life.
