Google is rolling out Android 17 to supported Pixel phones and compatible Pixel watches as part of its June Pixel Feature Drop, with additional Android 17 updates and security patches following. Multiple reports say the stable release focuses on multitasking and media creation, including “Bubbles,” which lets users turn apps into floating windows, and “Screen Reactions,” which adds reactions tied to the phone’s display and selfie camera. Foldable Pixel owners receive additions aimed at larger screens, including improved foldable multitasking and a gaming mode.
Several sources also highlight privacy and security changes. These include tighter controls around location and contacts permissions, improved lost-device protections, and enhanced threat detection, along with additional configuration options such as more granular settings and the ability to hide app names. Android 17 also brings expanded parental controls.
On-device and assistant features are described as broader and more AI-oriented for Pixel users, with Pixel AI tools such as generative music and video clip creation, plus improved call translation and screening and conversational photo editing. Separate coverage notes a July update that applies the July 2026 security patch and includes fixes for a range of Pixel models, and that non-Pixel phones receive Android 17 more limited functionality.
