Mary, a two-year-old Tasmanian devil, is found on the Gold Coast after more than two weeks on the run following her escape from a quarantine facility at Paradise Country theme park in Queensland. Multiple outlets report she escapes in the early hours of 2 June from an enclosure in the park, which sits far from the devil’s native range. Zoo staff believe an “abnormally large leap” allows Mary to clear a fence. After her escape, teams search for her, including using thermal imaging drones and ranger/zookeeper efforts that take about 15 days.

When Mary is finally located, she is taken to hospital. The Guardian reports she is in an unstable condition on arrival, while other outlets focus on her recovery and initial feeding once brought into care. The reports agree on the basic timeline: her escape on 2 June, her disappearance for over two weeks, and her eventual discovery on the Gold Coast.
