The Mumbai Crime Branch is investigating an alleged investment fraud involving actor Javed Jaffrey and his family, and is trying to trace accused persons linked to the case. The agency has issued a Lookout Circular (LOC) against suspended BMC Assistant Municipal Commissioner Mahesh Patil, one of the accused, citing concerns that he may attempt to leave the country. Police say Patil is being sought as part of efforts to trace his role and recover details connected to the alleged cheating.

The complaint relates to allegations that UK-based businessman Nishit Patel cheated Jaffrey, his wife Habiba, and other family members by promising lucrative returns linked to the redevelopment of the New Kamal Kunj project in Bandra West. Patel was earlier arrested by the Mumbai Crime Branch property cell, and a second accused, Rupesh More, is also under arrest. Investigators allege More created forged government documents and impersonated a registration-department official, including by visiting the complainant’s residence and collecting photographs, signatures, and thumb impressions using equipment resembling that found in government offices.

Police also allege the money siphoned from the family was routed through a network of shell entities including Ayaan Enterprises, Harinam Enterprises, Poojan Technologies, Udit Traders, Ashiyan Food, RPP Multitrade Pvt Ltd, Trod-2 World Trading and Jalor Pay Fintech. Investigators are examining financial transactions involving these firms, and police sources cite allegations that Patel held a Rolex watch and foreign currency belonging to the complainant’s son.
