India’s annual defence production reaches an all-time high of ₹1.78 lakh crore in the financial year 2025-26, according to multiple reports citing figures from the Ministry of Defence. The new level is reported as about a 15.6% rise from ₹1.54 lakh crore in FY2024-25. Several outlets also describe longer-term growth, saying defence production has more than doubled since FY2020-21 (from ₹84,643 crore) and has nearly quadrupled compared with FY2013-14 (₹43,746 crore).

The reports also highlight a shift in the composition of output. Defence Public Sector Undertakings (DPSUs) and other public sector units account for about 76% of production in FY26, while the private sector contributes around 24%. The private sector share is described as increasing from 22% in the previous fiscal year, with its absolute output reported at nearly ₹42,000 crore.

In addition, at least one outlet reports that defence exports hit a record, reaching ₹38,424 crore in FY26, up about 62.6% year-on-year. Sources attribute the expansion to policy measures aimed at indigenisation, manufacturing growth, and increased participation by private industry.
