Oyo State Government participates in a traditional prayer and sacrifice event organised by the Ibadan Labala Masquerades Group to seek the safe release of abducted schoolchildren and teachers. The prayers are held at the Labala shrine in the Labo area of Ibadan, with the event approved by Chief Ojeyemi Ajayi (Idunnu Ifa), President of the Labala Masquerades Group Worldwide. In a statement, the state’s Commissioner for Information, Prince Dotun Oyelade, says the initiative involves traditional prayers and sacrifices intended to secure the victims’ return and help restore peace and security in the state under Governor Seyi Makinde.
Representatives from the Oyo State Ministry of Culture and Tourism join the event, praising the group’s compassion and partnership with the government. The Balogun Baale Labala of Ibadan and Oyo State, Chief Oosakola Oladejo, says a private special sacrifice has already been conducted and that a prayer walk is held across parts of Ibadan to invoke divine intervention, prevent further deaths and end kidnapping and insecurity.
The abductions occurred on May 15, 2026, when armed attackers seized students and staff during attacks on three schools in Oriire Local Government Area. Security agencies and relevant government efforts continue to focus on rescuing the victims unharmed.
