Google is expanding its Android Parental Controls features to devices running Android 17, moving beyond their earlier availability on Pixel phones. The tools appear in a dedicated area within the Android Settings menu alongside Google Family Link features. The update gives parents controls aimed at managing children’s digital wellbeing, including tracking screen time, setting app-specific time limits, and creating scheduled downtime when phone use is restricted. Parents can also apply Google Play app filters and manage or restrict app downloads, with options to block apps entirely.
In addition to the on-device controls, Google is increasing a US-focused digital wellbeing fund to more than $50 million, according to NDTV. GSMArena also describes the Parental Controls as integrated system settings that provide an organized way for supervision without requiring separate setup for every function.
Google’s announcement comes in a broader context of parental-control feature rollouts across mobile platforms, with NDTV noting Apple’s recent related updates for iOS, iPadOS, and macOS.
