Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi orders a high-level inquiry into alleged errors found in newly published school textbooks for Classes 1 to 8. Reports cited by multiple outlets say the textbooks contain about 1,600 to 1,678 identified mistakes, prompting student difficulties and public concern. Majhi reviews the issue and directs that errors be corrected immediately and that action be taken against those responsible for the lapses.
The government constitutes a three-member committee to investigate the publication, printing, and quality-check process behind the textbooks. According to the reports, the committee is headed by the Development Commissioner (also described as Development Commissioner-cum-Additional Chief Secretary in one outlet). The other members include officials from the Odia Language, Literature and Culture Department and the General Administration & Public Grievance Department.
The committee is instructed to examine the causes of the errors, determine the stage and level at which they occurred, and identify officials or institutions involved. The inquiry is set to be completed quickly, with the committee required to submit its report within seven days. Separate reporting notes that the majority of mistakes are concentrated in Class VIII, with additional errors reported across subjects including Jijnasa, Sanskrit, Social Science, and English and Mathematics.
