The work links the problem to a warmer atmosphere’s ability to hold more moisture, which can intensify rainfall extremes and contribute to sharper shifts in precipitation patterns. The study argues that these rapid alternations may undermine planning approaches that rely on more stable relationships between drought and flooding. In other words, tactics designed for typical patterns of rainfall and water availability may be less effective when conditions flip quickly.
