A 19-year-old NEET aspirant in Coimbatore allegedly died by suicide shortly after the NEET-UG examination was cancelled and a re-examination date was announced, according to multiple reports. The student had reportedly been studying for admission to medical college and expressed anxiety about taking the test again. Several outlets link her death to mental distress following the cancellation, including fear of reappearing for the exam and concerns about the financial burden on her family.

Reports state that after the cancellation and the announcement of a retest on June 21, the aspirant sent emotional messages to relatives expressing fear and worry, particularly about her father’s expenses. Relatives found her unwell after forcing entry into her room, and she was taken to a private hospital, where she later died despite treatment. Police registered a case and seized her mobile phone, while post-mortem procedures were reported to have been carried out.

The incident also triggers protests by political groups demanding changes to NEET. One report adds that it follows a wider pattern of student suicides reported after the cancellation, with an overall death toll cited by families and media.
