The UK’s National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC) says the country’s critical infrastructure is facing sustained cyber pressure. In the year to May 2026, the NCSC handled 200 incidents involving critical infrastructure and supporting systems, according to NCSC chief executive Richard Horne. Horne said that roughly three-quarters of attacks on critical systems can be linked to hostile state actors.
In remarks delivered in June 2026, Horne warned that hostile states—named as including Russia, China and Iran—are increasingly targeting systems that underpin essential services. The NCSC describes critical national infrastructure as including sectors such as the nuclear deterrent, power plants, hospitals and airports.
Both outlets report Horne framing the situation as an ongoing contest involving capable adversaries. The reports present the figures and attribution from the NCSC, without detailing specific incidents, affected organizations, or the outcomes of any individual attacks.
