A red kangaroo is doing well after being captured following several days loose on Montreal’s South Shore, according to the Granby Zoo. The zoo says the animal has been eating normally and resting after its capture, following four days of hopping around fields near Boucherville, Que. Officials with Quebec’s Environment Department also confirm the capture, after the kangaroo was first reported late last week when videos circulated on social media showing it in a field.
Both reports describe a period in which the kangaroo remained at large before being taken into care. The Granby Zoo provides the most recent condition update, stating that the animal is calm and recovering after the effort to locate and capture it. The reports do not describe any injuries or charges, and they do not specify how the animal was found or moved beyond noting that it was taken after multiple days away from captivity.
The situation ends a short-lived public concern driven by the animal’s visibility in outdoor areas and online posts during the week.
