JetBlue is planning to reduce operations in the New York area by closing operational bases at Newark Liberty International Airport and LaGuardia Airport, according to multiple reports. The airline will shut its Newark flight attendant base and close maintenance bases at Newark and LaGuardia. The changes are scheduled to take effect in the fall, the outlets report.

The decision comes as JetBlue focuses more heavily on its South Florida strategy, particularly its operations centered around Fort Lauderdale. One report says the airline has been giving up New York City-area capacity, including JFK slots, to support growth at Newark through its partnership with United, and that this broader shift is contributing to the smaller New York-area footprint.

Another report attributes the pullback in part to mounting airport and operating costs in the region. While the sources agree on the closures and the general direction of JetBlue’s strategy, they describe different drivers—operational restructuring tied to partnerships and capacity, alongside cost pressures at New York-area airports.
