The Toronto Blue Jays place veteran right-hander Max Scherzer on the injured list due to back spasms, according to multiple reports. The team makes the move as the starting rotation takes another hit. One outlet reports the injury placement is for 10 days, while another reports a 15-day injured list designation.
Scherzer, who is scheduled to turn 42 next month, is replaced in the rotation immediately. City News Toronto reports that Chad Dallas is recalled from the Triple-A Buffalo Bisons in a corresponding roster move. It also reports that Braydon Fisher is scheduled to start Wednesday in Scherzer’s place, based on reporting from Sportsnet.
Earlier this season, Scherzer already missed time on the injured list for other issues, including right forearm tendinitis and left ankle inflammation, totaling more than six weeks. The reports collectively indicate the current IL move is tied specifically to back spasms.
