Kwara State Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq has sued former governor and former Senate President Bukola Saraki at the Kwara State High Court, alleging that a social media post he made on April 17, 2026 amounts to criminal defamation and cyberbullying. The governor says the post attacked his reputation after the Kwara government issued an earlier press statement, including claims tied to Saraki questioning Abdulrazaq’s educational qualifications.
Saraki is represented by lawyers led by Jimoh Mumini (SAN). His legal team argues that the case was improperly filed and that the high court lacks jurisdiction, framing the post as a legitimate exercise of free speech as an opposition figure. Abdulrazaq’s lawyers contend the statement could incite unrest in the state and asked the court to issue a bench warrant to compel Saraki’s appearance.
Justice M. O. Folorunso adjourns the matter to July 3, 2026, when rulings are expected on the competing applications by both sides. Saraki also urges supporters to remain calm and law-abiding, describing the case as an attempt to silence him.
