Bauchi State Police Command has launched a statewide enforcement campaign targeting unregistered vehicles and the use of concealed, altered, obscured, or fake number plates. The operation begins with the deployment of mobile courts to prosecute offenders quickly, with cases already being heard in the state. Police say the initiative follows a directive from Inspector-General of Police Olatunji Rilwan Disu and is aimed at improving road safety and strengthening security.
Sources report that the police set up mobile court arrangements in coordination with the state judiciary, including at area command headquarters and other key locations in Bauchi and its environs. Offences covered include vehicles without valid registration and vehicles displaying unauthorised, fictitious, or covered/defaced identification plates. The police indicate that offenders may face vehicle impoundment and prosecution, with penalties determined under relevant motor vehicle laws and police regulations.
Command officials also stress that the enforcement is intended to protect lives and property and not to harass compliant motorists. Vehicle owners and drivers are urged to regularise registration documents and ensure number plates are clearly displayed without tampering. The crackdown is described as continuing across Bauchi State.
