The Abia State House of Assembly resolves to invite security chiefs in the state for a meeting aimed at addressing growing security breaches, with kidnapping highlighted as a major concern. The decision is reached unanimously during Tuesday’s plenary session following a motion of urgent public importance raised by Deputy Speaker Augustine Okezie Mmeregini.

Mmeregini cites recent kidnappings in Umuahia North Local Government Area, including the abduction of Dennis Okechi Izuchukwu and Onyiyechi Ekechukwu at Umuawa, Alaocha community, as evidence of worsening insecurity. He describes the trend as a “insurgency of kidnapping and other vices” and urges relevant agencies, including the Abia State Homeland Security Agency and sister security bodies, to intensify efforts to protect lives and property.

The Speaker, Emmanuel Emeruwa, treats the issue as critical and the House agrees to interface directly with security officials to find lasting solutions. The motion also calls on mayors across the 17 local government areas to reactivate community vigilante groups and asks traditional rulers and community leaders to remain vigilant.
