Gunmen suspected to be Fulani militia kill Saf Samuel Alaket, the District Head of Gwande in Bokkos Local Government Area, Plateau State, in a road ambush on Wednesday evening. Sources say Alaket is returning from a traditional council meeting at the council headquarters when attackers stop or ambush his vehicle around 7:30 pm. Eyewitnesses report the shooting happens along the road near the boundary between the Sha District and the Daffo community, close to the monarch’s hometown. He is reported to sustain severe gunshot injuries and is rushed to a nearby hospital, where he is later confirmed dead. A community leader and member of the late monarch’s council, Peter Gwande, describes the death as a significant loss for Gwande, Bokkos Local Government Area, and Plateau State. Local youth leader Christopher Luka says the attack increases tension in the area, though security operatives bring the situation under control after the incident. The killings are reported as part of wider insecurity in parts of Plateau State, where attacks on communities and traditional leaders recur. Attempts to obtain comments from the Plateau State Police Command do not succeed in at least one outlet’s report.
