Tether says it is winding down the “Alloy by Tether” platform and discontinuing support for its gold-linked aUSDT stablecoin. According to Tether, the decision follows a review of user activity, market demand, and broader strategic priorities. Tether describes aUSDT as a stablecoin that is over-collateralized by XAUT, a token backed by gold.
Tether says existing aUSDT users are given a redemption window of three months. During this period, users can redeem their aUSDT holdings to reclaim the underlying XAUT collateral. After the wind-down period ends, Tether will no longer support the product.
Both sources report the same core actions: discontinuation of the Alloy by Tether platform and termination of aUSDT support. Tether also indicates it is reallocating resources toward other products it says have stronger liquidity, broader adoption, and larger market opportunities.
