Pune police have arrested self-styled godman Radhamohan Mishra (59) and seven associates for allegedly sexually exploiting and torturing people under the guise of running a spiritual institution at Kharadi. Police say the case came to light on June 16 after a woman approached Kharadi police station describing years of alleged abuse, including sexual assault, rape, and psychological torture. The FIR is registered under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Maharashtra Anti-Superstition and Black Magic Act.

Investigators allege that Mishra portrayed himself as having divine powers, including claims of being an incarnation of God, and operated through a “Modern Gurukul.” Police say the alleged victims were gradually isolated from their families and kept under the accused group’s influence through fear, religious beliefs, and forced confessions. Authorities also allege physical torture, including administering electric shocks and forcing victims to drink urine. Times of India reports the ashram had surveillance elements, including escape routes and CCTV, as part of the alleged control mechanism.

Police say a raid sealed the premises and led to the seizure of digital devices, cash, and valuables. Investigations are ongoing and police indicate they are looking for additional victims.
