A woman who recently returned from South Sudan is being monitored in an isolation ward at Kottayam Medical College in Kerala after developing symptoms that prompted health authorities to test her for Ebola. According to officials, she first visited a private hospital on Wednesday with fever and vomiting. Because of her recent travel history, the hospital notified the state Health Department, which arranged for her transfer to Kottayam Medical College for further evaluation and laboratory testing.
Kerala’s health minister said that a preliminary assessment does not indicate an immediate cause for concern, but confirmation is pending. Blood samples have been collected and sent for testing, with results expected later. As a precautionary measure, health officials have prepared a contact list and started monitoring protocols for people who may have had exposure.
