Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to release the 23rd instalment of the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN) on June 20 in West Bengal’s Hooghly district. According to multiple reports, the government will transfer Rs 18,880 crore directly to farmers’ bank accounts under the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) system. The payments are expected to reach more than 9.44 crore farmers nationwide, with one report citing about 9.5 crore beneficiaries. The disbursal is described as part of ongoing efforts to support the income security of small and marginal farmers.
During the same visit, Modi is also expected to launch the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY) and the Restructured Weather-Based Crop Insurance Scheme (RWBCIS) in West Bengal. Reports also say he will launch an Agri-Tech platform under the Digital Agriculture Mission, along with the National Natural Farming Mission. In addition, the Prime Minister will inaugurate rural road projects under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY)-III, with coverage highlighted as part of improving rural connectivity. The programme is also noted as being marked as PM Kisan Utsav Diwas.
