The York Revolution, an independent minor-league baseball team in Pennsylvania, forfeits its Pride Night game after several players refuse to wear the team’s Pride-themed uniforms. The organization had scheduled its 11th annual Pride Night for Thursday against the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs and planned for players to wear jerseys with rainbow sleeves as part of the celebration. According to multiple reports, more than a dozen players declined to participate with the uniforms, leaving the Revolution unable to assemble a full lineup card. The team cancels the game and accepts the forfeit rather than proceed without players wearing the scheduled Pride Night attire.
In a statement cited by outlets, the Revolution says it decided that hosting the event “is more important than forcing players to wear jerseys they are not comfortable with,” and it characterizes the players’ refusal as inconsistent with the club’s vision for inclusion. The team also says it proceeds with Pride Night as a “free and fun celebration” of recognition and inclusion, even though the game does not take place.
