Organisers confirm the London Marathon will be held across two days in 2027 as a special one-off change. Multiple outlets report that, for 2027, the event expands from its usual single-day format to take place over the weekend, with dates cited as Saturday 24 or 25 April and Sunday 25 or 26 April. The shift is intended to accommodate more runners and support a record field size. The Guardian and Daily Mail say the change will enable up to 100,000 runners to take part, which is framed as an increase designed to allow participation at record level. The Guardian also reports the event is expected to raise tens of millions more for charity, while other outlets focus on the format change rather than fundraising outcomes. Several sources add that the weekend structure will split races across the two days, including men’s and women’s events, and also include mass participation alongside elite races. In relation to next year’s entries, Daily Mail says more than 1.3 million people who register for upcoming marathons are entered into a ballot, with results due in July.
