The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) is investigating a self-styled prophet, Godwin Sunday Ajuluchukwucheya, also known as Prophet Sunday Koboko, following allegations that he defrauded members of his ministry. According to EFCC statements shared on its official social media account and reports by Nigerian outlets, the probe is handled by operatives of the EFCC’s Enugu Zonal Directorate.

The accusations centre on claims that the cleric collected money from worshippers by promising spiritual interventions and offering investment opportunities. One petitioner, Okey Uwakwe, alleges he paid multiple sums, including N6.23 million for spiritual assistance to persuade Ajuluchukwucheya’s brother abroad to return to Nigeria, and N3.25 million to help his sister-in-law conceive after years of childlessness.

Other claims include that the prophet persuaded members to contribute toward a supposed N33 billion lottery win and a rice-processing business described as being worth N1 billion. EFCC said the total amount allegedly collected is N70.39 million, with Uwakwe alone paying N13.33 million without receiving the promised benefits. The EFCC says investigations are ongoing and charges may follow once the process is completed.
